About us
Nepal is an impressing country, a green and hot country in the in the southern Terai belt, a rough and could country in
the high Himalayan peaks in the north. A country with a large diversity in flora and fauna, a country shaped also by
its traditions and sacral buildings, shaped by its people who, where ever you meet them will show a warm and hearty
smile. But Nepal is also one of the poorest countries in the world.
Those impressions led to the foundation of NRA through a group of trekkers from Aachen. The same impressions still
gather people together to continue the work of NRA.
he first projects were dedicated to to education. Schools were renovated, solar systems or toilets installed. But the
variety of projects increased fast: education, alphabetisation, water irrigation, a wheelchair project, support of
hospitals and conduction of health camps as well as social reintegration of trafficked girls are the main fields
NRA is working nowadays.
The following principles apply to our work:
- Donations are directly transferred into the projects
- To create ownership, communities contribute 20-25% of the budgeted costs, mainly in terms of manpower.
- the projects progress is always documented with written reports and pictures
- we concentrate our work if possible in remote areas of Nepal, avoiding the Kathmandu valley, which is crowded by
help agencies
- All projects are visited and looked after by our local representative and board members
- Only after convincing documentation of the project progress the second and third part of the budgeted costs are
paid
- NRA Members work without getting paid for, no travel expenses for board members are paid.
The work of NRA has been regularly certified by DZI since the year 2000, showing a responsible and transparent way of
dealing with their ressources and donations.
